A Vitamin C Smoothie Recipe for Healthy, Glowing Skin

Even though vitamin C is always associated with its so-called ability to boost our immunity, the benefits of ascorbic acid don’t end there. Vitamin C is necessary for skin and overall body health and what better way to get your daily dose than with a fruity smoothie? Discover the skin care benefits of vitamin C and get a delicious smoothie recipe below.

The Benefits

Vitamin C, an antioxidant, is essential for the growth and repair of tissues in the body. It’s specifically necessary to help the body block skin damage caused by free radicals and to keep the skin hydrated.  As we age, the concentration of vitamin C in our skin declines, thanks, in part, to prolonged, unprotected UV exposure and other environmental damage. This decline may lead to dryness and wrinkles and while, topical products that contain vitamin C may help, why not give your body a (tasty) boost internally as well?

The Beverage

While oranges get all the glory when it comes to vitamin C, according to the US National Library of Medicine citrus fruits aren’t alone. Fruits and vegetables such as cantaloupe, kiwi, mango, green peppers, spinach, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes also contain high concentrations of vitamin C. Using some of these vitamin C sources, you can create a fruity treat, perfect for breakfast or a mid-day snack—and one that may help with wrinkles and dry skin, at that.

Ingredients:

2 clementines, peeled (approximately 72.2 mg vitamin C*)

2 cups fresh spinach (approximately 16.8mg vitamin C)

1 cup mango chunks (approximately 60.1mg vitamin C)

½ cup plain Greek yogurt

½ cup ice (optional)

Directions:

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

2. Pour and enjoy!
